April 19th Event
The shotgun start went off as scheduled, however we had to make changes to the format due to a few no shows and late arrivals. For shotgun starts, especially those involving team events with pari-mutuel betting it's imperative that you arrive at least 1/2 hour prior to the start so that we can insure that teams are complete before we start. Besides the no shows we had some very late arrivals and as a result we had to change the format to individual stroke play. Please check the website for the low gross and low net winners plus the KP's. Here is the link: www.hazelmeremensclub.orgThe weather made for a challenging day, just ask our newly crowned AQUA MAN Bob Pope. It appears that with a little help from the wind his cart and clubs had a mind of their own and decided to test the depth of the water on hole #5. As a result Bob made a hasty departure to warmer surroundings. After the golf we had a no host lunch in conjunction with our AGM. For those who were not able to attend I'll recap the topics that were discussed.
AGM Recap
The meeting was called to order by our president Jim Werlinger, who introduced the other members of our executive.
Jim Werlinger - Club PresidentTerry Johnston - VP and match play captainBrent Weatherhead - Club CaptainChris Thorstensen - Asst. Club CaptainLance Harvey - Director of pace of play and the Handicap CommitteeBrian Wilson - TreasurerRon Cherniak - Director at Large
Rich Dolny - WebsiteMike White gave us an update on the course preparation for the GVCC. Jamie and his crew are doing a fantastic job and Mike asked that we take the time to thank these people for their efforts.
Eric Edwardson talked about the on going preparation required to prepare for the GVCC and also made a plea for volunteers for the event and for the divot nights which will be held May 7th & 21st. and June 4th & 12th. At the same time Brent Weatherhead made a plea for caddies for this event. If you have the time it's a fantastic experience.Brent Weatherhead went through our schedule of events and the rules that will cover the match play events this year to insure that matches are completed before the deadline dates. Under no circumstance will there be extensions this year. It's every players responsibility to contact their opponents so that the matches are played on time. We don't want to be flipping coins to decide outcomes.Brian Wilson gave the treasurers report indicating the club is in good shape financiallyLance Harvey talked about the newly formed handicap committee (Lance and Al Embleton). He asked for another volunteer to join and Mike Scanlan volunteered. Lance discussed the pace of play and suggested that we all check the tips mentioned in the glossy flyer the club sent out in the last newsletter. Our focus this year will not be on the length of time it takes to play a round, but on MINDING THE GAP making sure your group keeps up to the group ahead of you, not in front of the group behind. We will be offering hints our newsletters an how to speed up play. Lance's suggestions for this letter are: Get to your ball quickly, think about which club you will need as you approach the ball and play ready golf. Survey your putt while others are putting and do not mark short putts unless you are standing in someone's line.Next event will be held May 3. This will be a 2 man Ryder Cup. Please check the website for tee times.Individual & Team Match Play Ladders
The Match Play Ladders for the A Events have now been posted for some 10 days and some players are still not aware of who they have to play! Gentlemen the "NO DEADLINE EXTENSION RULE" is carved in stone and the clock is ticking. As of the writing of this news letter no matches have been reported. We ask that once you have booked a tee time to play a match that this information be emailed to hmc@hazelmeremensclub.org so that we can post the date for the benefit of the other players who are waiting for the result. Once the match has been completed you will find a link in the Match Play section of the website to report the results of the Match Play.

Looking for a Few Good Men
At the AGM, our Club President mentioned that a few members of the executive will be retiring and we are looking for a few people who want an opportunity to GIVE BACK to the club. Volunteering your time to serve on the Executive does not require a large amount of your time but does require commitment and dedication. We will be requiring at least 3 new people, one of which will be the Treasurer so if anyone has knowledge of how to use Quicken (Personal Financial Software) we would appreciate your help.
The Men's Club has grown to 72 members this year! That is almost a 20% increase over last year. I think that speaks volumes as to the quality of the Men's Club program we have. It is the Executives intention to keep that level of quality but as anyone who serves on volunteer organizations can attest to, it doesn't happen on its won so...DON'T BE SHY!
That's it ( & that's enough) for this week. See you all bright and early Saturday, May 3rd!!Men's Club Executive
